I actually meant to post this a few weeks ago, but I completely forgot about until just now, when I heard it won an award at GDC.

Crayon Physics Deluxe is a 2D physics puzzle game, in which you get to experience what it would be like if your drawings would be magically transformed into real physical objects. Solve puzzles with your artistic vision and creative use of physics.

It's best just to watch the video, and then play the demo.

People like him/her need to be locked up. He or she is a vandal and an eco-terrorist living out their sick fantasies on a little etch-a-sketch. God help me, just look at their little psychotic doodles - driving cars off cliffs, smashing boulders on trees and starfish's. And on top of that, all this ungodly defiance of the laws of nature our holy lord set on his Earth :flame:

You sound a bit stressed. Incidentally, the game is very relaxing - almost hypnotic. You should play it. You should all play it. :insomnia:

It's not available at the link provided.

It should be if you scroll down a bit.

Here's the direct link though:

Bear in mind that it's the prototype version - you can only make rectangles, squares, and lines in that version. Still a very clever game though.

It's possible that they're referring to the description not being available. But when I tried before I couldn't download it, and that my download manager told me that the server didn't give me clearance. Or something.

So I just assumed.
Unless you need an account or something.

Yeah it's just the description... I just tried downloading it again, and it works fine. You don't need an account, just click on the yellow 'download now' button, and it should start right away. Maybe try disabling any download accellerators/managers (it's 6MB afterall).

I was pointed at this a few months ago. I actually have an archive of most of his downloadable games.

I think the fact that he sets a timeline of anywhere from a day to a month for each game, and then achieves them with a certain amount of nice content is an amazing thing.

Played it long time ago. Everybody should also try The Amazíng Flying Brothers. That's one great and hilarious game. I hope we get deluxe soon.

It's the best method to work to. I've tried the whole 'when it's done' thing, and that just opens you up to perfectionsim and procrastination.

Just tried it -- it's pretty fun when you get the hang of the controls.

Some more cool physics based freeware/demo games, including RTsa's Ragdoll Matrix:

Ragdoll Matrix was done by RTsa?! God, I was addicted to that game forever!

The final version, Crayon Physics Deluxe, came out over a month ago. This time, there's a generous 18 level demo and a level editor.

Childishly simple, yet utterly brilliant. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another game that gives you this much creative freedom to solve the game's levels. The balance between 'game' and 'play' is perfectly judged, and often the conflict is in designing an efficient solution vs. some wildly elaborate creation (most of mine ended up looking like something out of Monty Python :)). It gets more interesting when you learn how to create hinges, allowing you to make working wheels, swings, pulleys, and other devices.

I can imagine a lot of developers going "damn, I wish I'd thought of that". I'd also be really surprised if it doesn't get picked up for the Nintendo DS or Wii.

It's already been ported to the iPhone so yeah I'd expect a DS version.

I tossed a coin over this game a few months ago and World of Goo won.
