Hey hey all, I'm exciting to say that I'm kicking off the first of many competitions at AlanWAKE.Net.

We've got 3 official Alan Wake t-shirts to give away to some lucky winners. As such I think the best thing to do is split it up into 2 sections.


The first section (competition) is a fanart competition, basically this includes hand-drawn/digital art, wallpapers, sculptures etc.. etc..

You can enter as many times as you like and the 2 people who have the best entry (as voted on by our lovely staff) will win a Alan Wake T-shirt each.


The second section (competition) is a banner competition which will be shown at the top of the site. The restrictions here is that the banner size must be EXACTLY 750px wide and 75px high.

You can use any art or graphic you desire and the logo doesn't have to be in the same style as we have here (ie the same layout), however it does have to have the text "The official Alan Wake community site" somewhere on it. So those graphic artists who think they can do a better job then what is currently being used (link (http://www.alanwake.net/images/logo.jpg)), then nows your chance :)

You can enter as many times as you like with this as well, also please take into consideration the color scheme as well.

The winner who's banner is chosen to be the best will receive a Alan Wake T-shirt.

You can attach your entries for both competitions here in this thread.. or you can email me (please include your Forum username when you email me) them at [email removed] or Private message me via this site.

Deadline:
All entries must be submitted by 12:00pm GMT July 15th 2005.

I am a german student and I am sorry for my bad english :cry:
I read of the Contest an a german Game-Site and it sounds interesting.

My header is made of 3 Video-Caps of the first Trailer. I choose these shots because of the contrast between the bright and the dark shot. In the second Trailer there is said: "NOW LIGHT IS HIS ONLY ALLY", on this way I think it's matches perfectly that Alan brings light into the darkness, because he is holding a flashlight in his hand.

Oh sorry, i see its a little bit dark but I think Alan Wake is a game who plays in the dark....and when you like my design i can make it a little bit brighter....!

anyon: Great work.. can you also provide all the original 750x75 banner images as well? Just incase yours does win it'll be easier for me to throw it up on the site rather then cropping it out and thus losing quality of the image as well.

You can't. The Alan part is similar to the Trebuchet font and the WAKE part is similar to Arial Black.

I wanted to stay straightforward and match the sites colour scheme. Not wanting to show off too much but instead trying to establish a sense of 'mystery' I chose 'paths' leading on as picture elements, omitting the player figure. The black in the middle matches the black background outside the website's box. The attempt with courier new as a font simulating a typewriter (=>fiction writer) I discarded as it does not match the website at all. The simulation of the original font(s), tnx ADM for the hint above, is best, I guess. And finally, as I can't do better, I hereby try to pull ADM over the table by this rant :hyper:

First i did a little graphic of alan.. Its more a "adventure game" look or call it a comic look but i thought it looked cool ;D Problem was, i couldnt find a picture of alans shoes and i dont really like drawing shoes, so i just left them out...

You do this a long time or what you work? And what Programs do you use? Iam very bad in non-print things iam better in print things like flyers or something......so iam a non professional in this an i use photoshop.....but you guys are very good!

Well, I've actually worked as a webdesigner and Graphic artist for 5 years, nowdays I'm a sysadmin. My first picture (http://www.alanwake.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=72) is completly made with photoshop and alan wake screenshots I wanted to make on unique good looking picture that looks like a screenshot. The second (http://www.alanwake.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=76) (topview) is done (the room) with 3d studio max and rest finalized in photoshop. Lots of small tweking in both pics.

Accept no substitutes as photoshop is de-facto standard in image manipulation, try to learn different ways doing the sam thing (eg. use layers, filters, masking, spray etc) learning any 3d software package helps alot also when learning dimensions & lightning. oh yeah.. read tutorials, draw, draw draw, train, both by hand and computer there's no shortcut no matter what software you use... :D :cool:

Yes, Sam Lake is the first Max Payne, he is also the one that wrote the story for Max Payne & Max Payne 2 and now alan wake, he is remedys only full-time writer as far as I know.
