Hey there, first of all >_> damn, its such a great looking game, really looking forward to that.. But theres just something on my mind.. Although, it sometimes seems really cheesy and not fitting, any good game has a "title song", sung, with lyrics, and relatively mainstream.. but fitting.. >_> like Metal Gear Solid 3 or Any Silent Hill game, they all have a remarkable good song.. or any Final Fantasy..

sooo.. will there be anything like that in Alan Wake ? ^^

If not, then just tell me, I'll write one ;D *half joking, but im kinda serios =3 *

I know they already have a main orchestral score planned for the game (that's a big plus in my book), but it's certainly possible to add in a licensed track.
Out of all the most immersive and enjoyable games i've played, they have all had classical soundtracks (Max Payne, Wing Commander, Freespace and Metal Gear Solid series).
By adding a licenced track however, then you run the risk of a song ruining the mood of the game. Take Doom 3 for instance, the Nine Inch Nails performed the title song, but it was a bit of a waste. "Late Goodbye" on the other hand suited Max Payne 2 almost perfectly. I really liked the way that Remedy used orchestral music throughout the game and only saved the lyrical track for the end credits. Not only was it a catchy tune, but the lyrics slightly resembled Max's journey "into the night".

Hmm i thought about a song with a really nice and moody melody and throughout the game, the orchestra catches the melody up... like i think you mentioned it.. >.>'' dunno,

Orchestral Music is very fine too, but im more into these licensed tracks..

Remember Tomb Raider theme (no, not angel of darkness xD).. always wished that someone would do a lyrical songs with that melody...

Personally, I hope Remedy doesn't have a lyric-based song for Alan Wake...there is no better way to prematurely "date" a game IMHO.

I can appreciate the tone they were striving for with Max Payne 2's title credit song, but ultimately that type of music (particularly the vocal styling and lyrics) comes across as saccharine, sappy and cheesy - for lack of better terms - and not very musically interesting to the ear. This is especially the case in a darkly themed computer game such as Max Payne.

For the record, Chris Vrenna, an ex-member of NIN performed Doom 3's title track, not NIN (Trent) or Tool, as it was once scheduled to be. Even that song, as lyric-less as it was, still came across to me as being silly and mindless - bland, dumb head-banging angst for the sake of angst, not because it served the song or the tone of the game. See the Quake 1 soundtrack for a much better example of how pop/rock artists should contribute to game soundtracks.

I find the trailer music to be spot-on and I hope that's the direction Remedy are going for Alan Wake.

Just my $0.02

they could use vocals in some parts. I suggest getting Lisa Gerard (of dead can dance). She's been on a number of soundtracks (insider, gladiator, etc), and she's pretty awesome.

About Doom3 soundtrack, NIN ex drumer whom made that theme song used a lot of bad riffs there. Remastering of old doom theme song "At the doom's gate" (it's in first map or doom1 E1M1) didn't succeed as good as some hobbyers have done in http://www.ocremix.org. And remember that orginally Bobby Price 'Stole' the theme riff from Metallica's 'Master Of puppets' mid. riff verse3 into At Doom's Gate song.Thats why it was doomed to fail when remixing it. :) I think that when we compare it to Quake1 soundtrack which indeed was made by Trenz Trenor it is much better cause Trenor didn't copy anything from anybody, but quake1 soundtrack was too dark and slow to be mixed at again. Doom had music by bobby price who did stole something from here, and there and put it thogether in some interesting way. At least I really like E1M1 song even thought orinal Metallica version sounds much better. By the way E1M1 contains another Mid.Riff from another Metallica song called 'No Remorse'. It's just after the master of puppets fill in e1m1. I have friend who made an list of songs which are in orginal doom. Doom3 ST is nice even thought it doesn't have much to offer. I suggest to download Trenz Trenor sound pack into doom3 and then play it. It gives a much needed "feelings" into weapons and little bit of realism. Those where taken from leaked Doom3 alpha 0.02.

Anyway as for Alla Wake I hope that remedy does soething like Silent Hill2 cause it fits so well in games like these.

thats just what i think ;D i enjoyed the SH series and its soundtrack akira's a friggn god >_>

but i love the lyrical ones like in SH3 or Sh4 too, espacially something like tender sugar would IMO fit to alan wake.. although alan wake seems bit too commercial and extremly american @.@ cant describe it ..
