Guild Wars 2 is a game by ArenaNet and NCsoft and will be released on August 28th 2012http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/269244_10150961243969209_1310027548_n.jpghttp://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page

I've played guild wars a lot in my time but it seems that I'm finally loosing the interest to it. My IGN is Soul Of Powers if anyone wants to make a contact, but like I said I'm not playing it atm and besides, this thread is for gw 2.

Guild Wars 2 has some nice new updates like the possibility to move freely, jump, and the level cap has increased. I just hope that they don't make another WoW. Guild Wars and WoW have always had they're differencies and I hope they stay that way. You can't make wow players play gw or vice versa, at least not easily. Games should always have their fans and that's how it's always been.

Well, from what it looks like on the Guild Wars 2 info page, it seems it will remain much alike GW, only improved. Personally I'm looking very much forward to this game. I've played GW for a few years now, and I'm still enjoying it, actually.

I have an account and a level 23 necromancer. She hasn't gained a level in years. Consequently, I am a WoW player with a 70, a 64, and various other lower levels.

I didn't like the gameplay to GW, to be honest.

My core GW characters are all turning 3 years old this month.

GW is a 2D game space. GW2 will be 3D allowing up/down movements like jumping. I'm looking forward to it, although I do hope they invest more in story writing and voice acting.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to a more 3D environment. Will surely improve the current 2D space.

Well, it's a guess. 13th, then. Hell, maybe even lower. I haven't logged in for months. All I know is that she's a hot avatar.

Side note, I've given my account to several friends over the years. Some WoW players, some not. I couldn't keep any of them interested beyond a couple weeks.

I don't understand why so many people continue to compare GW with WoW. Organisations that monitor MMORPG activity and success never include GW. Even ArenaNet emphasises that GW is not an MMORPG. Just as there's a huge difference between a product and a service there's a huge difference between GW and WoW.

I purchased GW expecting no more or less engagement than what I got out of many other typical single player game purchases, but with more coop. Therefore, I'd have been quite satisfied with a couple of weeks of fun like I got out of Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, etc.

If GW and WoW do have anything in common it's this. Most players of either game who have not found a fun guild to join after a couple of weeks will probably lose interest.

It's coming. PlayNC hasn't given any release date, only that there's beta coming soon.
Where did you see this news? Gotta link?

Well, I think it was on the official site, but it's been removed. There's a text in guildwarsguru(yes I know it's a forum, but trust me, these guys have only official information), right here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2648062

You can see that the release date that guru suggested isn't correct anymore(it was..). Guild wars 2 FAQ (http://www.guildwars.com/products/guildwars2/gw2faq/) tells the latest information about the subject. I can't remember where I saw that beta would be coming soon, sorry. It was probably a newsletter that I got to my e-mail

Nope. I get the newsletter too and there hasn't been any news about the beta for ages.

Actually, I'll be very surprised if they even mention GW2 for the rest of this year. With pre-Xmas store shelves full of GW1 there's no reason to start hyping a product that they're still months away from selling.

I'm not comparing the two. Or at least I'm not trying to. WoW is my only frame of reference for an online game with the exception of Neverwinter Nights. I usually detest online communities in games like these. I was under the impression that GW should behave more like the previous rather than the former and so my interest was lost.

Yeah, well, there was speculation on the gwguru some months ago that the beta was coming in fall/christmas 2008. The game itself was according to be released in fall 2009, but PlayNC took it's words back. I think the hole beta thing was mixing up people's ideas about when they would release the game. Because some suggested that the game would be released in fall 2008.

Anyways.. If you ask me beta isn't coming this year. It's not because of Christmas sales are already on or there hasn't been any advertisement.. it's just too soon. And well, what does christmas sales matter when the beta release won't probably cost a thing.

Fellow Tyrians, Canthans and Elonians... GW2 appears to be delayed again (http://kotaku.com/5153648/guild-wars-2-delayed-to-2010+2011), this time until 2010 - 2011. :eh:
By then, I'll probably be up to my Ewoks in SW: The Old Republic.

Whoops. I've forgot this thread already, sorry about that. Here is the new trailer for gw 2: http://www.guildwars2.com/en/

Many things have changed since the last update of guild wars 2 came out. Apparently the leveling system has been changed somewhat. No quests will be given, but instead all kinds of events will occur during a normal PvE exploring. I say exploring, because, yes, it seems that game developers have decided to make the world one big district. This means that will be no loading times and that all the players share the explorable. Of course there's many districts so that place won't get too crowded.

There is lots of other things that have changed that you can read from the same site, or from http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2 example.

I'm not so sure about all the new updates. I'm not saying that it would suck, but a lot of things are new and might not work. But I don't have a habit of being too prejudice so we'll just wait see, yea?

Oh, and the trailer, it looks damn good.

Alright! Some updates! New elementalist skill videos, new races articles, some combat articles and some other media.

It seems that they are on a good pace. We will be hearing more and more as the time passes.

An article about events in Guild Wars 2 http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/dynamic-events/dynamic-events-overview/

Quest system and the way the game world works seems to be something entirely new in the field of MMORPG in Guild Wars 2

So. Ranger has been introduced. Some free ghosts of ascalon material, a rough map of guild wars 2, skill videos, article about more depth to personalizing your character: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/07/30/personalizing-your-experience-in-guild-wars-2/

And all the other stuff as well. Screenshots, race articles, old character articles and in game articles about combat and so on. Those can be found, as before, from the Guild Wars 2 Homepage (http://www.guildwars2.com)

Oh, and the level cap has been confirmed to be 80. You can found confirmation and more info here: http://www.arena.net/blog/progression-and-leveling-in-guild-wars-2

Sounds pretty decent to me. No grinding, I hate that.

No grinding, I hate that.
No no, grinding is the way to go. Damnit, why don't they ever have decent grinding anymore? :nono:

Zhinarkos
08-03-2010, 12:16 PM
Well let's say that I like leveling, challenge becomes more and more intense when you go to a higher level, but what I don't like is to waist a week of intensive game to gain a level. Enough is enough. Grinding is what happens when you have played a game for a year and have gained 20levels

Kahr
08-03-2010, 04:31 PM
There has to be a balance. I know of games that have done the grinding trick well. Where if you find certain tactics to where and how to level efficiently, the grinding actually becomes more interesting. And when you grind like that, you also make money at the same time by drops. Which is why I like the grinding.

One game for instance gave you bonuses for party-grinding. You could level up the party (up to 50) where you gained 50% more experience points per kill. When you did that, the leveling was still doable at higher levels.

Of course, there are also games where grinding is impossible. Attempting to grind there is a complete waste of time and effort, and leaves you with no sense of accomplishment, other than a "Greatest Waste of Time"-award for being an idiot.

It's all about balance.

On the other hand, it's also good to have variety. Give people the choice. Don't remove grinding. Let people who want to grind that possibility, but at the same time give those who hate grinding the possibility not to.

They are taking their sweet time with everything. I'm waiting for something new. All I've seen so far are basically just them repeating what they've already said.

Come on ArenaNet! You can do it!

True. I am usually very careful with demos. I don't actually like to watch them that much, because I want to experience them myself. Right now I am looking forward to info rather then videos

Kicking this thread back on track here.

All the new stuff can be found at guildwars2.com (http://guildwars2.com/en/)

That stuff includes things like new profession, the guardian and the lore updates for humans and norn.

Kahr
02-28-2011, 11:07 AM
Yeah, I've been following development for a while now. Always interesting to see the professions as they pop up.

I'm a bit disappointed in how long this is taking thought.

Zhinarkos
02-28-2011, 01:52 PM
What I heard was that with a fair certainty, the game isn't coming out this year. The beta is probably coming during this year's fall, considering the guild wars beyond content and the plans of their releases.

So it will probably be a year from now at least. Spring 2012 in a sense doesn't sound bad. No idea where I will be by then though, whether I have any time to play or not, and things like that...

I watched the videos of Thief skills. It looks rather cool, although it reminds me a lot of the Assassin. And personally, unless they have Assassin as well, I think "Assassin" sounds cooler than "Thief". Anyways, we'll see how it turns out.

Besides, they have both Warrior and Guardian, and those two are "essentially" alike (both are "tanks"). I am thinking that Guardian is probably a better tank though.

Zhinarkos
03-13-2011, 06:23 PM
They wanted to somehow continue the legacy of Paragon and Monk, so I guess guardian is their solution to the problem. But yeah, assassin sounds cooler and the initial view of the thief looks a lot like it. Then again, it has a lot of new skills, including steal, which seems quite interesting.

Kahr
03-13-2011, 06:38 PM
Maybe. But there is always a need for a dedicated healer, so will they keep the pure Monk? And then is Guardian like "Paladin"? A tank that also heals?

In any case, I won't start complaining until I've actually seen more, and perhaps even tried them out. For all I know, these things could work out a whole lot better. :p

I'm just saying. I liked the idea of Assassin better than the Thief.

Zhinarkos

Again a reminder. This time the new stuff includes Charr lore update and articles about krait, skritt and hylek.

Be sure to also check GuildWars2 wiki (http://wiki.guildwars2.com) since it offers some info not told on the main page or on the Anet plog like large amount of skills and their descriptions. I want to remind you though that all the info can change before the release of the game, especially skills, which WILL change. This is MMO after all that we are talking about here.

I applied yesterday. I've played Guild Wars since it launched in 2005, so to say I'm excited for GW2 is a huge understatement. Beta access would be awesome but I'm not counting it.

Zhinarkos
02-23-2012, 07:21 PM
I'm kinda on the same lines. It would be fun, but I am thinking it as a fat chance. It would be more fun to play the actual game anyway so in a way, if I don't get selected, I can still feel happy about it.

Then when it comes out I can happily start to explore that world which we entered almost seven years ago.

Anyway, I am hyped.

Kahr
02-23-2012, 07:46 PM
I'm not really interested in the beta. I'd rather just wait until the game is completed and jump straight in. I'm going to be playing it anyways when it's released.

Zhinarkos

I updated the first page to match the current release date status. ArenaNet just announced that they will be releasing the game on August 28th of 2012.

Two months of waiting, I can do that.
