or better still after E3 why don't remedy post the footage here and let us ordinary folks take a peek - it sounds much more interesting footage than the teaser trailer !!

As far as I know the trailer was shown behind closed doors, as such won't get released.
Unless that was only on the first day, either way doubt it'll get released. I think it's up to Remedy to send us a direct feed version, alanwake.net exclusive :p
What do you say Remedy? ;)

Hehhe ADM, you are too greedy (and so am I). Anyways, I'd love to. :D
BTW Prey was also a closed door show. But these peeping toms are everywhere you see. ;)

I sure do hope Remedy will release it themselves, instead of a ShakyCam.
I don't really see the point in showing a trailer to GameSpot, and not let the real fans see it.. :(
The devs seem interested in this site, but nevertheless you'd be lucky to get direct feed. Then again the devs often gave me exclusive stuff when I ran an Evil Genius fansite, so it's no unheard of. Can't wait to see some ingame stuff :)

Well, most of us here are Max Payne and/or Remedy fans and RMD has always been very close to the community. :)

They had that showing outside as well if I recall correctly.
HAHAHAHAHA. If u guys only knew. You were right the video was shown behind closed doors all three days of e3, no footage outside the booth, 13 people at a time, 15 minute shows every 20 minutes. I know because i went every day. I got a Alan Wake shirt every time too. Theres no way they are gonna show that video on this site because there was not video being taken. 2 rows of seats with 3 administrators in there real time playing and a "NO CAMERAS ALLOWED" sign on the door. :p The video is rediculous though.
The Story..... Alan Wake is an award winning horror novelist who is engaged to a beautiful woman who he uses as his muse. U see when he met this woman he began having weird dreams which he turned into novels. Then one day his fionce vanished without a trace. Alan was torn up after this. It got so bad that he couldnt sleep anymore. He was in bad shape. He had to go to a sleeping facility in the small town of Bright Falls pop. 1036. Now under medical care alan can sleep and has finally had rest. Then one day he meets this woman that looks exactly like his missing fionce. This is where things start to go bad. Alan starts having these horrible dreams and the city of Bright Falls begins to change. The shadowy figures in his dreams are coming out at night in this town. He then finds out that the night is not his friend. and these are the people he is fighting in the game.
the environment of the game...... light wind trees sway slightly, grass begins to sway slightly and NATURALLY none in unison and each blade has a shadow.... then he went into storm, grass is moving a lot, trees swaying like crazy, leaves blowing everywhere, EVEN THE HUGE LAKE WAS RESPONDING TO THE WIND!!!!!!
shadow play..... He pushed a swing an looked at the ground a a real time shadow of it was being perfectly cast. He stood by a bunch of bars and stairs and changed sun properties and every singe bar cast a shadow and the shadows moved realistically in real time and crazy quality ON A RADEON!!! xbox 360 will kill this game with the graphics. it will be insane. then free camera mode and went into the hills and moved sun properties and those trees u see in the screen shots...yeah EVERY SINGLE ONE CASTS A SHADOW.
then he has a flashlight at one point and IT LOOKS LIKE A FLASHLIGHT.
Free Roam.... the environment is free roaming kinda like gta but it doesnt look like crap like gta and NO LOAD TIMES.
Physics...... At one point he blew up part of a mountain and generated a rock slide and the physics were INSANE. every rock ever branch every port-a-pottie moved diferently and reacted differently.
he runs like max payne.
great voice acting.
he mentions the possibility of light grenades, and light motion sensors that go off when an enemy is near.
the finish, the sun is setting and alan is desperately wanting to get to a lighthouse and when he gets there he cant unlock the gate and the sun sets.... alan collapses in front of the gate "zoom out" at the end of the bridge leading to the lighthouse shadowy figures appear and are wearing trenchcoats with hoods ....... the end
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

For what it's worth.... we were showing the latest build of the game (not a video), which was being controlled in real time.

Oops I meant to say footage, not trailer :p
I keep making that mistake everytime someone asks about it, my apologies :)

What, even the end bit ?

Sounds like a pre-rendered video clip to me ...
Can't we have a peek at just that bit even....pleeeeaase ?

It could, and most likely is, a realtime cutscene.

Everything was realtime. The last part was a cinematic which was run in the game engine.

sorry - I didn't mean to suggest that it wasn't the game engine - but rather that the 'clip' exists somewhere as an mpg or wmv or whatever? - It wasn't controlled by a live 'game player' in the booth. 'Cinematic' was the word I was struggling to find, thanks...
I'm guessing that we're going to be 'drip fed' this stuff over the coming year to build interest, hence you don't want to release all of this stuff yet ? How long do you think it might be until we can see some of these cinematics ?

So basically 90% of the footage was a big ol' tech demo.
Oh well.
This game strangely reminds me of Silent Hill.
The Remedy guy was controlling the video with a keyboard and a Xbox 360 controller. The video was crazy guys. The blurry pics shouldnt even have been put up because they just hinder the real thing that was goin on. The last clip was not controlled but i think it was real-time though. It was of te same quality as the rest of the video.

The last bit is like the cinematics in Max Payne 2 where they are run with the game engine, that how it sounds and that's what mixuk told and there's no reason to not to believe him.
It could be that they just showed what the engine can currently do (remember it's still in development) and those parts may not be in the game itself and so that "playable demo" was only made for the E3. But what i've read, most of the parts sound like they will be in the final game too.

agreed, now we just want to see it.
...asap...
Having a 'closed booth' with the inevitable restricted numbers is surely done partly in order to build excitement... as such it works very well ;)

Can you reveal any kind of technical detail yet like what kind of shadow technique you guys use for AW?

are you guys retards ? he said they were controlling it in real time
not rendering in real time
sorry guys i may have been a little bit confusing calling it a "video" It wasnt a video. Maybe this will clear some things up. The whole things was being controlled in real time. It was a special e3 demo. The last bit was like the cinematics in max payne 2 where it isnt pre-recorded, it renders everything in real-time.

he runs like max payne.
great voice acting.
Could you describe what the voice was like? Was it deep and raw like Max or could you compare it to some actor?
And thanks for your detailed description of the show.

Why can't they put on a few more vids? Even brief vids would do. I was expecting that after E3, we would have a few more vids at hand!
Also can anyone answer Maxstream's qn? What was the voice like? Gravelly like Max Payne? Are there any similarities in Alan Wake and Max Payne as apparent from the gameplay...like their running is similar.
Well its not a cold hard voice like MP. I cant really describe it but it fits the character very well. Very clear soft spoken kinda guy. Very rich voice.
In terms of similarities it seems like the character properties are the same. He moves exactly like max payne in mp2. They didnt show any combat though so i really cant tell how hes gonna fight.

I guess we're giving up on ever seeing / hearing this footage ?
Interesting to hear about the voice though.
What was the soundtrack like ?

Yeah I wouldn't hold your breath for the footage.
However! There seems to be some new footage going to be shown soon on Tilt.tv show in Finland, so we will try to get that up on the site when that gets shown :)
