I just watched "Paranormal Activity". Ridiculous movie. Had its moments, but I can't really say it was a great, nor even a good, movie. If you're easily scared by the "paranormal" then I suppose you might get a kick out of it. Otherwise just don't bother.
Bah. :nono:
I JUST got done watching this. Decent if you like the documentary style spooky movies. I liked it.
Well I'm glad someone got something out of it. I'm not a big fan of the whole document-like horror movies. It seems like it's trying too hard to be real, and that for me only makes it less real. I don't believe any of these things, so trying too hard to become real puts me off.
Could have been good, but it just didn't do it for me.
And I'm a sucker for horror. :p

The Last Waltz
Opens with "This film should be played loud!". :)
Being a huge fan of The Band, I was a little apprehensive, but overall I enjoyed it. My biggest gripe is that, in a way, it should have been two separate films -- one the pure concert, and the other an interview-based documentary.
The way it is now, the interviews are mostly a collection of anecdotes -- you don't really get a real sense of the Band's story, who they were, where they came from, how they came to be together, their break with Dylan, what they were trying to do with the music, etc. At least, not in any great detail. For me, I'd have preferred a documentary style like No Distance Left to Run (about britpop band Blur's reunion last year), which I think gave a much clearer portrait of the band.
Still, I can't really complain, the actual performances are fantastic (even the 'guitar duel' between Robertson and Clapton ) and seeing them take the stage with people like Muddy Waters is stunning.
I watched Burn After Reading by Coen brothers.
It was freakin awesome, comes near Fargo. I don't understand some of the bad critic it got. Also it must be easily Brad Pitt's best role, hilarious! :D
Serious Man is next then I guess ;)

Yeah, with all the scientology and couch jumping, people tend to forget that he's actually a great actor. I dunno what you mean by it not being cliche, though, because that is one of the most cliche movies I've ever seen. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Saw a bunch of movies as I was flying back and forth from the US a couple of weeks ago:
Hurt Locker - Decent. Similar to any modern war movie like Jarhead
Up in the Air - Entertaining movie about business travelling.
Law Abiding Citizen - Cool movie with Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler about bringing down the legal system. I feel the movie could have ended so much better if they were a bit more brave with the storyline. The audience could have empathised with the "bad guy" quite easily with a few touches here and there.
Book of Eli - Interesting post-apocalyptic story about a guy with the last remaining copy of the Bible. Seemed like another comic book translation that probably cut the good meaty parts out of the story in exchange for mindless action.

I just watched the most ridiculous movie ever. It's called Bad Biology. The ending especially made laugh so hard I cried. For fans of Troma style over the top bad B-Movies. It's on Netflix Instant.
Here's the synopsis: In this outrageously twisted tale of sex and horror, highly excitable Jennifer (Charlee Danielson) and well-endowed Batz (Anthony Sneed) are strangers in search of sexual fulfillment. When they meet, the two discover that they're an explosive match made for lustful perversion. Mutant babies and a deadly dismembered member haunt this sure-to-be cult classic from director Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Frankenhooker).

I saw Sex and the city 2 last night. First, let me clarify one thing. I only saw it because my girl dragged me into it. I'm not even going to bother using spoiler tags.
All my past experiences with girl-movies have given me the impression that they are indeed bad movies, but I never expected a movie to suck as hard as this one. The plot consists of a few girls daily encounters with fashion, sex and relationships. It's like watching Big Brother in the big apple. Then they suddently run into a sheik who invites them to live at his hotel in Abu Dhabi. There they pretty much just run around driving fancy cars and camels, banging danish arcitects and bitching their servants around. Nothing happens. At one point one of the girls looses her passport and it looks like things are about to get ugly, but then everything get's magically resolved and they go out for shoes before taking the plane back to New York for the happy ending.
But in the end, Sex and the city 2 does accomplish the goal of being a movie that makes you feel good about yourself though. The shallow characters make you feel good about your own personality, the selfishness of the characters will make you feel great about how you treat others, the amount of offensive material toward Arabs will make you feel good about your tolerance toward others and the mere stupity of this film will make you feel smart. Those are the only accomplishments Sex and the city 2, even if it wasn't intended.
And to make the night worse I got hit on by a man while waiting outside of the toilet for my gf, that was pretty uncomfortable.

expected this to be pretty terrible after the awful 'The Return' but it was fantastic, short, to the point, and chock full of brutal action and expertly shot. Andrei Arlovski has a great screen presence and his MMA background is exploited to the fullest with some excellent fight scenes. Dolph and Van Damme aren't in it very much, but Van Damme finally gets his 'Commando' moment and goes on a 25 minute blood bath in which he dispatched around 30 assilants before going on to fight Dolph in what is one of the best fights of the year. Can't wait for the Expendables !!!

I watched a little movie called Shortbus yesterday. It was, err... interesting to say the least, but better than I had expected. The sexually explicit scenes are actually a part of the story, instead of just being there for the sake of offending or arouse people.
I had to skip the gay threesome though. I´m not homophobic at all, but that was a bit too much.

Sixth Sense. I have watched it already once. I decided to watch one of those "one time films" just to see my point of view when the fact is known from the start.

And Stephen King's It. I don't know if they're really is too many people who care all that much about horror series' or films. And adaptions, also tend to be low quality films. But for what it is worth, I think the miniseries is great, best miniseries or adaption ever made. It's a lot to say, considering the story and all, but Tim Curry did an excellent job as Pennywise, all the actors are great, the story is composed nicely, and it's full of feeling. The musics are, from time to time, the most beautiful I have ever heard. A real hunting feeling of childhood memories rise when I hear the music on the end..
Considering I soon have to leave my hometown to study somewhere it makes things even worse.

Stayed up late last night and ended up watching Frida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frida), an excellent biopic about the mexican artist Frida Kahlo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frida_Kahlo), portrayed by Salma Heyak. I'd vaugely aware of Frida Kahlo's work and background, but never really 'got' it, if that makes sense. This film was a good tribute to her life, and made me want to find out more, which I guess is the point of these kind of films.

Yes, stuff was blown and lots of grunts died. Not as many as I expected, not as gory as I expected, and there was more CG blood than I expected (as opposed to good ol' squibs).
And I like Alfred Molina and Salma.
I bumped in to Alfred in New York, he was a cool guy - happily stopped for a photo.

Another Dafoe film that doesn't get much attention is Animal Factory, a prison film directed by Steve Buscemi, with Dafoe and Edward Furlong.
I would also recommend Shadow of the Vampire, which is about the making of Nosferatu - one of the first vampire movies. You will hardly recognise Dafoe in that one.

No. The whole point of the endings was to make everyone that walks out of the movie have to ask each other whether or not they thought it was real or not. The movie does not indicate either way. Hence, it is a commercially oriented plot move. Not saying that makes the movie rubbish, but compared to memento it isn't as good at all. Still it's very solid for a hollywood movie, but not amazing enough to watch again, and not amazing enough to make it into my movie collection.
It's a good one off thriller, or as an introductory into decent movies for the mainstream audience. If anything if you drag a mate along to it and they don't get confused then you know that you can let them watch more involving movies and not live through the pain of having to explain every plot point, or refrain from doing so because the entire point of the movie you happen to be watching is that you aren't meant to get it all the time.

Telegrafisten. It's inspired by one of Knut Hamsun's books. It was filmed like 30km away from where I live, which I find sort of cool...

Oh come now it was one big hilarious romp. Great movie. Not an amazing film to be watched again and again, but still it delivered on its promises which is more than you can say of most movies these days.

Resident Evil: Afterlife which started on Friday is selling very good in U.S and other countries. 73.3 million $ on 3 days. It's 3D by the way.
The average score is not good at all. 37/ 100 so far.
Anyway, I think I'll check it out in a few days.

Law Abiding Citizen - a film where the bad guy should have won. It just felt as though the film wanted us to side with the main character, but then one of the producers thought it was too risky and decided to make him the "bad guy" in the last 10 minutes.

Buried. I have to say, I am not kidding, this is the most exciting movie I have ever seen. Go watch it if you haven't already, it's absolutely fantastic!
Dare I say it, it's even as good, if not BETTER, than Inception! :o

Let Me in, the American remake of the Swedish film, Let The Right One In. Some people say a remake is totally unnecessary and I might sort of agree. But, having seen both movies, I like the American one more. It succeeded at some things the Swedish one didn't.
Paranormal Activity 2.
Heh. Remind me to not see a horror movie in theatres again. My friend kept shushing me whenever I laughed.

Watched the girl with a dragon tattoo (all 3 movies in swedish with english subs). Pretty good, though books were better. Don't know why Hollywood want to remake the movies... can't see how they'll be any different... if anything they'll just be worse.

Yeah I loved it -- just what I needed to take my mind off moving. :)
Too bad they can't/won't make movies like that anymore. :(
As for Rocky Horror, that's on its own musical plane of existence...

It was freaking good.
Got depressed having to go back to university again for the week, so I curled up in a blanket, had some graham crackers and milk, and watched Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and pretended I was ten years old again.

You have to see this movie. Best b grade action movie ever.
Me and my mate were in a cinema that fits about 200 people and there were maybe 10 other people in the cinema and all you could hear throughout the movie was the 12 of us constantly laughing in pure thrill/shock/ecstacy/etc. seriously i was crying from too much laughter within about 3 mins into the movie post intro credits.
Soooo many epic moments to think about... my one thought is "who the hell thought of doing that?".
Just ridiculous. Epic. Insane.

Internet trolls are not related to trolls in Scandinavian folklore, it's related to fishing. Trolling is a way of fishing where you are slowly dragging a lure or baited hook from a moving boat while waiting for fish to strike. Common misunderstanding :)
