View Full Version : Rain
You know, if you live in or have visited Washington (or BC or Oregon I presume), you'd probably know that it rains here... a lot. Anyone think we should get some rainy levels in the next game. I don't remember any rain in AW (there was wind and lightning though). I'd love to see a level where it's pouring... would look very striking.

Arsh I think U are right.
I think in my opinion rain is a fear element that could be utilized.
I say this because I was on my way back from high school on my bus. And it started pouring and not only that the sky was gray and the trees were very violent. Many people were going for their windows (closing them: they were originally open because of the heat)
That those say something about people and rain... the "violence" of rain and the fact that most people don't go outside in the rain.
But I really don't know any way that it would add to the gameplay mechanics. I think it could add to the mood of the game but in mechanics, I just don't see any element that could be used.
Ohh lets not forget that rain, as pretty as it may seem, could be a demanding task, not necessarily for the gpu but for the cpu.

I would love to see a level in AW where it's pouring rain. Visibility would be even worse, making it that much more intense.

I just want to ask you guys at Remedy something.
Can the current build of your engine handle rain in any form if it was introduced.
Just a technicality Or the branching tree of a game's potencial. The lines are always blurred in Night Springs.

I was actually a bit surprised to see no rain. I hope they will use that in the next game. Heck, if they're willing to use tornadoes, a good thunderstorm would be awesome, too. Lightning could be both helpful and a hindrance. :P

Oooh .. Use a lightning rod to burn off the taken :-)
I think rain could work well on some scenes. It would look good if it was done like the crop field chapter on left for dead 2.

Rain defined the setting and atmosphere in Max Payne 2, as snow did in Max Payne; so I'm guessing Remedy purposely avoided it for stylistic reasons, rather than technical.
Having said that, I have a vague memory of Petri or someone talking about how rain could affect driving, so maybe it was considered and discarded at some point. I'd definitely like to see it in either DLC or a sequel -- if only because the visible would be worse, and it would make Taken even harder to track (especially the ones that wizz about).

lol well if there is rain then there must be more and more things that have to be iterated. So maybe that is something that they did not want to include since it would have taken time. Maybe in the sequel. but you know they have to find a way to implement i so it plays into the reality of the world and as well plays a role you know.
I think though that I did expect some rain in that one episode with Dr. Hartman and the psychiatric facility. I think it would have set the mood 10 times over for me.

I'm not sure which level it is. But there actually is extremely light rain in one part of one of the episodes. But I do agree. A downpour episode would be pretty fun!

They could even go so far as to create Dark Rain. That is, the Dark Presence could mimic the storm and rain down on Alan like poison, or acid rain.
(I'm soooo evil...)
But Alan's luscious locks will be ruined in the rain! :D

I love great precipitation effects in games. I hope something comes of that in Alan's future. I mean, get a load of the beautiful wind and foliage rustling that's already in-game! Man, do I love this game!

I would love to see some rain in future installments, but only if the rain effects the character models and weapons accurately. I want to see the fabric of clothing soaking through with the rain, and maybe the developers could have Alan throw up his hood when the rain starts and he can finally put that hoodie to good use (and they wouldn't have to render wet hair).

A hoodie with a killer umbrella to match!
Well...it would be fun to watch him try to dodge with one... ;)
