I beat Alan Wake awhile back and have just recently started playing "The Signal," but I'm interested in returning to previous areas from earlier episodes to retrieve thermoses and manuscript pages that I've missed. I know that if I go to the home screen, there's the "Episodes" option which lets me select a checkpoint to return to, but if I open one, it says that it will replace my current checkpoint. Does this mean that I'll have to replay everything from that point on, or what? I'm confused by this.
Thanks,
Zach

Nay good sir.
There are 3 possible saves:
Hard Disk Alan Wake
Hard Disk Special Feature One: The Signal
Hard Disk Special Feature Two: The Writer
It will not overwrite your "Signal" save, only the existing checkpoints in the game, (the first six episodes.)
The DLC's have a save of their own.
Cheers,
Phoenix

Thanks! that's what I was hoping.
But let's say that I return to the Bright Falls Light & Power checkpoint, will I be able to go back up to the Road to Cauldron Lake when I'm finished at the dam?

Do you mean that you can play the Bright Falls Light & Power, quit, then play On the Road to Cauldron Lake?
Because if that's what you mean yes. Yes you can. The episodes save as you progress, so you can play them in any order you wish.
