Unless the Internet implodes due to rabid fans, the demo for the new game by Human Head and 3D Realms should be hitting the net within the hour. I'll be putting up my impressions of the demo once I finish it. From what I have seen thus far, I certainly won't be disappointed. If you haven't heard about the game, take a look over at the 3DR site.

It was up at download.com 10 minutes before it was up at gamespot, which was supposed to be first.
Anyway, it ****ING ROCKS. I had more shit-my-pants moments in that demo than I did all throughout HL2.

Indeed it rocks, but shocking? It isn't really frightning IMO...
Anyway, my jaw was like hitting the floor through the hole demo, cuz of the great design... They don't just copied it from Doom 3 or Quake IV, they really built a neat atmosphere there. The MP-mode is just amazing! It's so funny to fight against another players when they're shooting from the ceiling at you.^^
When does the PREY demo hit the xbox marketplace?

When does the PREY demo hit the xbox marketplace?
All we have heard is that the 360 demo is in testing at Microsoft, and that they don't release new games Fri-Sun, so we're all hoping for a release early next week.

-- Highly Anticipated First-Person Shooter Coming to Xbox 360 and PC --
New York, NY – June 28, 2006 – 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), and 3D Realms today announced the first-person shooter Prey has gone to gold master and will be available in North America on July 11th and in Europe on July 14th. Developed by Human Head Studios under the direct supervision of 3D Realms, Prey will be available for Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC in both a regular edition and a Limited Collector’s Edition. "Prey’s greatest message is that a commitment to quality, polish and unique gameplay is a sure-fire way to build a brand and one we strongly believe will have staying power for years to come," said Scott Miller, CEO, 3D Realms. "We believe Prey will be a major hit for gamers worldwide."

Different developers pepsi. It was put on the backburner in 97 or so and then taken up by Humanhead in 2001 and development didn't start until 02. So it's been 4 years.

Which is what you call development hell.
However, it is still in production and my Spidey senses are tingling.

I get the feeling that it might have Doom 3 Syndrom, where everybody complanes that it doesn't have a gripping story and deems the gameplay repedative, when in fact the games acctually quite good.

Awww, you can't say Prey doesn't have a story. Ok, it's a bit over used (aliens coming to Earth, blah, blah..) but the demo looks promising in terms of storyline, it has some more depth than most FPSs.

I was talking about DNF.
finally the Prey demo made it's way onto the Xbox Live Marketplace, its a whopping 1.2 GB!! Anyways after half and hour it downloaded and let me say after watching all those videos of Prey seeing the warp holes and the paths that allow you to walk on walls you think you'll know how it plays, but when you actually play and walk through the portal or climb up a wall for the first time it feels really cool. Although I havn't finished the demo I give it a thumbs up.

Yeah. I thought the game would be really cool, but theres just somthing different when you acctually play. Somthing for the better. This is one of the rare games that even videos cannot justify.

Drat, with my pc, it doesn't look like I'll be able to try the demo for a while -- sounds awesome though. :)
Btw, what do you guys make of the streaming/download distribution system that's meant to be on offer? (as an alternative to purchasing in the shops)
Apparently you can play it before you've finished even downloading it.
When player's buy Prey from Triton (http://www.playtriton.com/), they need to only download around 20 percent of the game before they can begin playing the game. This takes about 20-25 minutes or so, a very reasonable period to wait before playing a content heavy, triple-A title.

Sorry, didn't catch that.
The first time I was walking on the wall and the alien was standing on the floor above me at an awkward angle I was like OMG! how do I aim! Real nice sense! I bet some subtle rubbling on the X360 controller when you're upside down would tweak the sense a bit, though.
