What does this link mean "free download"? You can download the game for free or a multiplayer patch or something?

the multiplayer component from the award winning PC title F.E.A.R.™, has been renamed F.E.A.R. Combat and will be made available to the public as a free download on Thursday August 17th, 2006.
F.E.A.R. Combat is the complete multiplayer component of F.E.A.R. and includes all the updates, additional official maps and additional official game modes all in one downloadable file.
I think you can download and play for free the multiplayer part, but not the singleplayer part :p
Still, I've decided that I won't be playing F.E.A.R. until I get a new computer that could fully deliver all the awesomeness :(
Aww..you'll miss out on it then, because you won't find many players when they find out MP sucks. :P
Or..that's what I've heard..

FEAR is some of the best multiplayer action I have ever played. Balls-to-the-walls action. Its probably the best deathmatch game ever made. If you want tactical slow-paced boringness with buy menus, play CS. If you want awesome super-ultra-high-paced-clouds-of-dust-chunks-of-the-wall-missing action, play FEAR.

I've been holding off on FEAR ever since release because I knew my PC couldn't handle it at the high settings. But the multiplayer for free is just too damn tempting I think. I remember I had a lot of fun when the multiplayer demo was first released.
Though getting this will make me buying the 360 version feel like I'm getting even less for my money
Anyone got any idea why they're even making it free?
If it's free, people who haven't played it yet will try it and maybe buy the full game with singleplayer if they like the gameplay and graphics.
Because they're kind?
Games that don't sell too much anymore should be made freeware anyway.
(a year or two after launch..depends on the game, of course)

Most developers just do this with a demo though.
I guess maybe it is just generosity? Regardless, it's a nice gesture. More developers ought to do things like this in my opinion. Makes a nice change from the usual imo.

Well, poor me had my CD4 break, making it so I cant install :( So this is a very welcome thing.
This is coming in about 6 or 7 hours. I'm not exactly sure, but the counter in the website is dependant on your windows time, so it doesn't take into account the timezones. Anyway, it's coming SOON.

It's available now. The full application is around 1.7 GB, so a fair sized download that may take a couple of hours even on high speed DSL.
Yup, downloading with BitTorrent! :)

when in charicter profil it ask to enter cd code i do and click ok. when all finished there i click to go to server list and i set filters and pick a server with low ping and some players it starts to enter but shortly after it say unable to verify cd code. so how is that? and just what am i supose to do it's multi player only but i cant join a game.

I've already got the full version. And now to kick some ass...
*BOOM*
Ok, so I walked three steps and then i exploded. That's what I hate about multi-player games. The fact that I suck.
