A couple weeks back Microsoft announced (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/733/733658p1.html) that a patch is being released to enable full 1080p Xbox 360 games. Today GamePro is able to confirm (http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=84037) that Splinter Cell: Double Agent which has recently released, will support 1080p when the Xbox 360 dashboard patch comes out later this year. Factor 5 has also announced (http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/6557) that Lair would not only support 1080p and 60FPS but also uses less then half of the power of the PS3. Since Lair renders 32 square miles of terrain as well as can push over 3000 A.I. controlled characters on the screen at once, I began to wonder if it would be possible for Alan Wake to pull this off. Now I am no graphics expert so instead of speculating I figured I would ask, is it possible for Alan Wake to support 1080p on the Xbox 360 without any lost in graphics? What are your thoughts? How about 60FPS?

Why not use all the power available ? Are they saving the rest for their next game, so they'll be able to use 1.5x the power of the PS3

SC : DA is internal rendered at 720p so it will just upscale to 1080p. This is not real 1080p.Also it runs at 30fps.

Lair its graphically downgraded obviously because of the 1080p and at the moment it runs between 15 and 20 fps .

The 32 square miles of Lair's terrain is nothing more that reccurrent sea and a huge stone bridge in the middle of it .
Also 3.000 clones of the same 1 or 2 soldiers is something achieavable since ATI 800xtx and Nvidia 6800ultra. Nothing special!
I am not a developer but i dont believe that a game like AW can run at 1080p and 60 FpS with 4XAA and 8xAF in any next gen console.
If you want it so much you have to wait for a 2nd gen DX10 card somewhere close to holidays 2007 or for XBOX 720 at 2010 :D
Dont believe any bollocks that PR people try to serve out to you.
If Alan wake end up to be a 720p game running at at stable 30fps with 4XAA and 8XAF I will be eternaly thankful to REMEDY

Listen to the man people.
If AW was natively rendered at 1080p on the 360, there no way it would be able to retain the level of detail shown in the latest pictures.
..by "detail" I mean things such as framerate, AA, AF, Texture/Bump/Normal/Disp Res, lightsources...etc.
While i'd be more than happy to be proven wrong, i beleive that 720p is indeed the sweetspot with the 360 in regards to a balance of resolution and detail/framerate.

It doesnt look like it. Looking at games like gta4, oblivion and Halo 3, which can only run on "dumbed down" lower resolutions than 1080, ( gta actually runs at 720p) it seems obvious that a game like alan wake can be taken to 1080p- UNLESS - the field of view in the game is reduced substantially.

the xbox 360 can do 1080p but due to most limitations of the models sold (premium and below) its usually 720p. i know the elite with HDMI could do it with no problem, but the reason most games are just upscaled is due to the number of standard VGA/Component 360s out.
@goldenboyfx:
i was actually sad to see Halo3 and GTAIV reduced... such potential wasted.

The xbox 360 couldent do true 720p on halo 3 so alan wake forget it. the most will be 720p and 30fps if your lucky

I don't see why Bungie chickened out, Halo runs fine, even at the slightly lower resolution. What would 184000 more pixels do anyway?

Call of Duty 4 does 720p at 60fps no problem, and it has rather advanced visuals.
I don't think Alan Wake would have any problem doing 720p at a good framerate.

I don't understand the need for 1080P and 60FPS, the 360 can't achieve that anyway.
Why not just settle for 720P and 30FPS, wouldn't that be impressive enough?
720P is fine but 30 FPS = weak.

30 FPS is plenty fine, so long as the need to blast anything quickly won't be a problem.

As i said 720p and 30 frames thats the most you will get and you cant compare call of duty 4 to alan wake. call of duty dosent have the scope of alan wake wake. cod4 is to confined alan wake has miles of open countryside to see.Anyway you want to be gratefull its comming to xbox360 ive got both 360 and pc but will get the superior version on pc, Its what alan wake deserves.

360 has Halo and will have Wake. Therefore 360 > PS3, but it doesn't hurt to get both. :)

I just got PS3, came with the 80 GB model (20,40,60 gb models in my opinion arent enough space for those bluray games) and it also came with the new...METAL GEAR SOLID 4! All i have to say is WOW. This game is so amazing i cant even describe. It feels like you are playing in a movie. A lot of review sites have given the new grand theft auto 10/10 scoes, and now metal gear solid is getting 10/10, but i think its MGS4 that actually deserves that score.

COd 4 on the 360 does not do native 720 google it you will see its renderd at a lower resolution of 1024x600 then upscaled. i must add that res isnt difficult for a modern systems to produce my current pc has nvidia 7800 gpu and runs call of duty on my 15 in screen perfect. there aint that many games on 360 that do native proper full 720.

Instead of telling us there is proof, why not show us some legit proof? And I highly doubt most games are upscaled from lower than 720p.

I doubt a lot of gamers still have 15'' displays. In my case(1680x1050, max quality) CoD4 + Radeon X1950 = no go.

In the forums at Beyond3D there is a group that count the pixels from the buffer of dev machines that are out in the wild. So yes COD4 is rendered at subhd, just like GTA4(26fps on 360 - less on PS3), Halo3, MGS4 is 1024x768, NG2 1120x585, etc. Here is the link: Beyond3d (http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=48252)
This is the same group that called Bungie out on that whole deal with Halo 3. Some devs are even coming out and saying yes they are rendering at less than HD to get the game to where it needs to be. I think you can find the Haze team saying this, and a few others.
The 360 does have a lot of titles running at true 720p though, as well as a few at 1080p. The ones at 1080p do not have a lot of background movement, NBA08 for example.

I forgot to add that PC's will render in the resolution that you select in options for that game, where as the consoles are locked by the devs, and then the scaling chips take the render and upscale it. The devs should try and make it a 16x16 tile though(?I need to fact check this?), or something like that to get it to upscale properly.
