  • Cannot start: LoadLibrary failed with error 998

Death Rally won't start on my system (Windows 7 x64 Ultimate), immediately after start shows message box "LoadLibrary failed with error 998: Invalid Access to memory location". Tried running as Administrator, still the same. Any ideas?

Also are you running Norton as your security software as there is a DLL load error that seems to be occuring recemtly with random pieces of software.

I have the same problem as smirnoff, and I have tried to update my graphics gard drivers, and uninstalled my Norton. Still the same error on some programs.

Curious. Googling a bit, it looks like this either has something to do with Data Execution Protection (DEP) or some kind of 32bit/64bit code mixup. Neither should apply in this case, unless perhaps the OpenGL drivers are mixed up in the system or something. I also found a reference to this microsoft kb, although I don't know if it applies: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833620

Yes, I have seen that link before, and that is for the windows server 2003. I do not know if it works, but I will test it.

            Thanks anyways

              It's not functional with W7.

I got another report of DR not working on Win 7x64. But it works on my work PC which is a Win7 x64 just fine.

So to those who have the problem:
                - AMD or Intel system? What virus protection? AMD, Nvidia or Intel graphics?

Re: Cannot start: LoadLibrary failed with error 998

ok, we managed to run the game on the above kind of setup yesterday (Norton IS 2011).

I think this has to do with how the msvcr71.dll is loaded on these particular systems the problem occurs on, or possibly some kind of version conflict with that file.

Are you logged on with administrator privileges on that PC?

Yes, but I have fixed my programs. My problam was that i needed to update my ATI Catalyst Center. I had version 8.12 or something, adn the newest was 10.12. My programs work fine now.
