  • Best released Max Payne mods?

    Hi guys,
I'm looking for something fun to do and thought it might be nice to see what's happening on the mod front. Could you recommend me what are the best RELEASED Max Payne mods out there?

    Thanks a lot!

    For Max Payne 1:

My highlights: Kung Fu 3, Lightsabre 4, Bladerunner Evolution, The Family, Chain Mapping Projects, and anything by Froz. All of the mods in that list are great though.

EDIT: Forgot the recently released Max Payne @ University

For MP2, there's 7th Serpent, Hall of Mirrors, Battle Tactics, Sketchbook Sam, MI New Dawn, and a bunch of others that I can't quite recall at this time.

Another mod for MP2 that looks really promising is the Streetfighter II mod, but I don't think its been released. Quite an impressive trailer, though:

MOD stands for game modification. Sometimes, game developers are able and generous enough to release the in-house tools, editors and documentation they used to build the game (e.g. the level editor). These tools and editors allow gamers and enthusiasts to make their own custom levels and enhancements to the game -- called mods; which, in turn, can be shared with other players of the game.

Generally mods are free, and can be anything from a simple weapon adjustment, to a brand new game with an entirely different setting and characters. However, in general they only work with the PC version of the game (like in Max Payne's case); although that might change with the next generation of consoles.

Mods and level addons have been going around since the Doom and Duke3d days --possibly earlier. Probably the best known mod is Counter-Strike, which started off as a Half-Life mod, and became so successful that it eventually became a commercial game in its own right.

Damn i would love it if MS allowed mods to be released on the market place. If approved by the games developers first of course.

                  You mean for the Xbox?
I don't have an Xbox myself, but I was wondering if mods would even work on a console without any sort of change in the code?

Re: Best released Max Payne mods?

Technically you can get a mod running on the PC version without needing to compile and run a mpm, so it might be possible. I suppose it would largely depend on how different the Xbox version is to PC. If all the database content is the same (sounds, models, animations, etc), in other words, it's just a direct port from the pc, it might be possible.

If approved by the games developers first of course.
And the mod authors, I'd hope.

I almost missed this, but it turns out that Katana got an honourable mention at Moddb's annual mod of the year contest, in the editor's choice awards.

Singleplayer Mod of the Year: Afraid of Monsters (Half-Life)
                      Honorable Mention: Katana (Max Payne)

You really have to squint to see it, but even so, it's pretty cool to see a Max Payne mod up there.

Not sure about the first xbox but Epic are trying to get MS to allow them to release mods for Unreal tournament on the 360, max payne 1 and 2 are both BC so not sure if a mod would work that way?

The best mod for Max Payne 2 is "Close to Truth", it really ROCKS!!!
Too bad that its creator (YUKL) is kinda busy and has no plans to release CtT v.009.

I like "Max Payne Chronicles" for Max Payne 2.
