Serious problem?

Hey, bought Alan Wake the other day, great game, but I think I glitched it? I'll try and be as specific as I can.

So it's part 5, and I'm going with the Sheriff to get the chopper, and right where the yellow sign on the wall says "follow" and has an arrow pointing to the water and all the porta potties are lying around and the Sheriff unlocks a gate, etc.
Well, I went through the gate and around the porta potties I got attacked so I turned on the generator and stepped into the light so that the game said checkpoint.
Now I can't get back through the gate to the Sheriff, who is standing on the other side of two cars so she can't get through, and she won't come through the gate, and I think I need her to trigger a sequence?

If anyone could help as quickly as possible, that'd be great. I might just be an idiot, I have been known to overlook things, but I've been looking for at least an hour.
