Interesting Concept.

Found this on Alan Wake Wiki.

In the game, there are hints that Alan is a reincarnation of Thomas Zane. Rose behaves similarly to a young Cynthia Weaver and at the end becomes the new lady of the light. From these hints, and given the characters' pasts, could it be possible that Alice is a reincarnated Barbara Jagger?

And on an added note, in the book version, Alice heard Alan say, "It's not a lake...It's an ocean." Why did Remedy decide to put that in the book?

It's not a lake.... It's an ocean.

Man, I hope not. Again, that would be a pretty stupid way to explain things, just like the "Wierd Al" theory.

I don't think Wake is the reincarnation. I think it's supposed to mean that he's exactly like Zane, but he will be the one strong enough to make it out.

Re: Interesting Concept.

The book version is not cannon and as such anything you read in there that deviated from the game should not really be looked at.

I don't like the whole reincarnation thing. Seems to be a bit too abstract for the "real world". They have a lot in common and are in similar situations though.

On the other hand, Alan is definitely connected to Zane in some way - I'm one of the supporters of the "Zane is Alan's father" theory. Which (probably) would make Jagger his mother. (Geez, if we combine our theories and assume that Alice is a reincarnation of Jagger e.g. Alan's mother... Yikes! )

Yeah I personally don't believe in the reincarnation thing. But they are very similar, and that means something.

If someone is the reincarnation of another being, that another being MUST be dead, right? Thomas Zane isn't Dead, Barbara Jagger isn't (well, NOW it's) dead...

About Rose, well... i don't see her like a young Cinthia... I mean, yeah, Cinthia has loved Thomas Zane, and Thomas used this. But they were friends above all, you know, they know each other, they are from the same communnity... Rose, well, Rose is just a waitress that's a big fan of a writter, and she only dream with the possibility to meet Wake some day in her life... I think that Wake only used Rose (like Thomas used Cinthia), and this stop here.

I believe Zane created Alan. But he created him as a writer, so Alan can create too.

Re: Interesting Concept.

I don't think Zane is dead. I think he's become something else after he erased himself, like a representation of an idea the way the Dark Presence is. It reminds me of the Chuck Palahnuik book Rant, where in the book if you can go back in time and kill your parents, you become immortal because you no longer have a beginning, and therefore can't have an end. Zane's just existing in a different way now. Also in Rant, the main character is (I think, it's been a while since I read this) an alternate timeline version of another character who made himself immortal, created by time to replace what was erased. Maybe something similar is happening in Alan Wake?
