This one i found trying to steal my underware of my window, I invited him in!

G-man sick bastard always peaking where you last expect... Hey btw, he doenst have that weird accent on real life!

The place where the original pics were posted is actually in my city, Perth in Western Australia.

It's called the HDR lighting technique if I don't remember wrong

Extremely nice but none of those look "real" though in my opinion.

It's far more than HDR. HDR is only High Dynamic Range lighting. It is the effect you see when you look from a very bright spot to a dark one and it takes a second or two to adjust your eyesight.
These pictures are great example of all sorts of demanding calculations of ray-tracing, hdr, shadowing and anything else you can throw at it.

i think i could have done that without HDR.. dirt map and som simple light faking.. with directional lights or spotlights..

Who made those pictures has a pretty good idea on how true next generation titles will look like once they ship. ;-)

All joking aside, I'm a fairly serious guy in general so I'm not really kidding you guys too much.

Traditionally, during development Remedy has improved how their games look, thruout the development, rather than downgrading once closer to release screenshots start to appear.

Go figure.

I had no idea HDR could create such convincing character lighting too, I thought it was mainly for the cool global lighting effects and "light bleeding" from strong sunlight etc. Very cool, shame this kind of rendering really hurts current hardware.

Yeah it can do some good lighting. I think in a couple of years we'll start to see hardware that can do the above.
