Classic point & click adventures
People seem to think that this genre is dead or at least verge of dying,
but I disagree. Even though it's golden age is far in past, there are still some great releases in this generation. And more is coming. So I shall put up this topic for games that live under this almost forgotten genre to bring up games that no adventuregamer should miss. And why not start myself for example? Gray Matter It's about reclusive neurobiologist, who can't forgive and forget the death of his wife, and about his new assistant, magician who dreams about joining the mysterious Daedalus-club. Animation feels a bit stiff and the game starts really slow, but after the story kicks in, I just could not stop playing until the credits roll. (did I really sit here 10 hours straight? Well, did learn a few magic tricks myself on the way) Music is fantastic as well as voice acting and dialogue. Games to look forward to: Black Mirror 3 (one should play the two to understand what the hell is going on) A Vampyre Story 2 (damn, haven't heard news from this for a long time, but the first one was really good) Art is not about technique or skill. It's about your soul you put on your work

Re: Classic point & click adventures
I've always enjoyed point and click games...Still Life was one I really enjoyed.
Essentially, Quantic Dream has laid the ground work for what is the evolution of the "point and click"...with games like Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit) and Heavy Rain. This is probably where they're going. It may not be the same as the classic style, but they're bound to grow in popularity within the upcoming years, with the success of Heavy Rain. I'm really excited to see this style of game catch on, myself. |

Re: Classic point & click adventures
Don't you dare forget some oldies from Apogee and 3D Realms era.
Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, The Goblins, Dracula and many more are some of the classic ones. The newer are quite a good follower of this kind of game.
The game can take you in a journey of fantasy, cause your mind is the creator of fantasy ! |

Re: Classic point & click adventures
Of course The Old Ones shall not be forgotten.
They were the best. (nostalgia factor arises again) If I were to list all classics I'd probably sit here all night. And still miss something. So to clarify, the oldies to be mentioned too! Art is not about technique or skill. It's about your soul you put on your work |

Re: Classic point & click adventures
Yeah, Gemini Rue is actually a good one.
At least for us, who appreciate story and athmosphere more than fancy graphics. Art is not about technique or skill. It's about your soul you put on your work

Re: Classic point & click adventures
I'm playing Beneath A Steel Sky for the first time at the moment - I like it so far. The dialogue makes me laugh; I especially like the robot, Joey
![]() In the past played the Monkey Island games, Grim Fandango and the Broken Sword series. I feel as though I missed out on a lot of interesting 'point and click' adventure games though, so this thread might just prompt me to check some more out

Re: Classic point & click adventures
^Joey is brilliant.
There's still tons of the classic ones I need to play - Indiana Jones, Sam and Max, Broken Sword. To be honest, I would say the genre evolved into games like Resident Evil - the original games are essentially the same format (especially the heavy emphasis on item based puzzles), except in 3d, and with combat and monsters introduced. |

Re: Classic point & click adventures
Anyone heard of Alpha Polaris?
The graphics will not blow your mind (in a good or bad sense) Some of the puzzles are pretty merciless and the game is not very long, but I'd still recommend this to any adventure gamer. http://www.turmoilgames.com/ Even the price is reasonable. Art is not about technique or skill. It's about your soul you put on your work |
