Here we go again. MP 1 doesn't run Win 7 64

Hey all,

Here we go again. I just upgraded to windows 7 64-bit. We solved the MP2 issue and now when I try to run the set up for MP1 and Duke 3D it says I can't because its in compatible. How can I install these?

Edit: Wanna laugh, those of you who followed my post in the Max Payne 2 not working thread, MP 2 now works fine without the crack LMAO. I guess I traded one for another.

Thanks

Hi. I am not sure I will help but I don't think it is a Windows... I have the same one. Win 7 and 64 bit and olny problem I had(that i fix anyway) was with sound.
Update the game, do reinstals... or I know it may sounds crasy, I am sure that you have oryginal part but try to crack it. It may starts with this.
Good Luck

I do own the retail copy thats what I am trying to install. I can't even run the set up. Same goes for Duke 3D. I have the original retail discs. Both installed fine on my previous Vista 32 system.

Ok. You need to restart your PC and don’t let windows on, just after restart(before windows loading) push F8 bottom. Keep pushing until you will see a lot of menu like:
- Safe boot mode
- Safe boot mode with network
And a lot of it.

Chose “Safe boot mode”. Then your windows will start in “Safe boot mode” (with is for fixing and etc). Try install those games on this mode. After that. Restart your PC and let load windows normal.

I hope you got the point
Good luck.

There is no need for that.

the old "INSTALL.EXE" won't work on vista or 7. all you have to do is open the cd-drive manually (right mousebutton -> open), then go to "DISK1" and start the "SETUP.EXE" - should work, i did it that way recently because i also played through max 1 and 2 again.

Actually the safe mode idea did work for me and thank you. I installed the game, the patch, and the sound fix and its good to go. SO far I like 7. I got Duke 3D to work too, but that took some work. Thanks for your replies!

you can grab the latest patch >here< ( http://www.3drealms.com/max/downloads.html )

the soundpatch in his newest version (1.12 apr-2012) with instructions can be found >here<

if you have problems installing max payne use one of the techniques mentioned in the postings above (safe mode or SETUP.EXE in "DISK1"). have fun.

indeed, i think the last time i ran it was years ago on a computer that only just met the recommended stats so running it at a steady 150-180fps according to fraps it runs nicely!

Got to say that for a 11year old game it doesnt look too bad at all really!

Love it, loved it back then and just as good now

true! i really understand why there wasn't any "better-grahpics-hd-remastered" mods shortly after the release, and years after the game was out - just gameplay-additions. before max payne the usage of photo-textures was still unfamiliar, hands where just cubes and no one ever did something like bullettime. it's truly a masterpiece.

these third person games also came out in 2001:

"oni":

"gothic":

and some months before the release of max "tomb raider chronicles":

i mean seriously, compare these with "max payne" (a fair comparisonshot):

even today there are shooters with less detailed bullet casing xD

indeed, looks great on the highest settings it can do!

only problem i still have is that for some reason the sound patch wont patch, just throws up an error so i have no voice in the comic strips which is annoying, i shall keep trying to get it working!
