After some playing with the Alan Wake unpack tool the community released I made a couple things and took some screenshots Be gentle, it's my first work with the Alan Wake 'tools'.

I was going to do a gameplay vid last night but I was busy so I won't get one up for a few days, but it's coming!

I want to do a few more and change some other stuff so that might make it into the vid as well.

This needs to be an unlockable in AW2. Just have the Remedy teams faces depending on what the lights shining on.

I was trying to replace Alan with Barry but was having some problems so here's just a sample of what I got.



Most of the Barry textures are smaller so you need to resize them when you want to apply them to Alan. Also it seems like if you change the 'texture_n' files the game likes to crash by either freezing or sitting at a loading screen.

I did get the texture of Barry's face to apply to Alan for awhile but I think the texture was corrupt and causing the game to crash. For awhile Alan's face kind of looked like that part in The Cable Guy where Jim Carrey puts the Medieval Times chicken skin on his face. It. Was. Messed. Up.

Radi: I was wondering if anyone here would see that I did initiate that a bit but all the writing was them. I'm just happy to see AW get some news (before AW2, right Remedy? ).

I'm working on a few changes at once for another video so it'll take a little bit but hopefully I have something up in the next day or two.

Does anyone here have/use Camtasia to record game videos?

For some reason Alan Wake doesn't like to record in fullscreen using Camtasia. I've tested it fullscreen with other games and it works just fine, but when you start recording in AW the game loses focus to the desktop and Camtasia starts recording a black screen. I'll play with it some more, otherwise I'll just use a fixed window again.

Thanks for the support! I agree Morry, now that I look at it I think it's a little far. The textures tend to stretch outward when they're applied so it's probably due to that. I'll play with it.

Any suggestions for what I should do to our good ol' kidnapper friend Ben Mott on the Ferry? Maybe branded by an exorcism gone wrong? Or covered in feathers...?

Is there any way you could modify the actual models for the game in program like blender?

I like the Mario theme, I have a few other ideas related to that I'm going to explore...

@Antti I'd love to work with more but I can't find out how! From what I've found online the models are most likely a Remedy in-house format that I don't know how to open with any of the programs I have. Even the Alpha or Mapping textures I've worked with I haven't been able to 'crack'. Often if the texture is incorrect in any form it crashes the game so I'm not sure about modding anything more than that (though I'm sure it's possible).

@djshauny1 Can't wait to see your work, send me any questions if you have any (not that I really know doing this that much). I was even considering doing a video tutorial on how I mod AW but haven't fully convinced myself to do that quite yet...

The mapping is pretty questionable here (pun intended) because they use the same texture all over in the box but they offset it. But, I couldn't help myself:
