  • American Nightmare's Writing

Is it only me or is the writing for American Nightmare so cheesy? It's so B Movie or TV movie type of thing. I guess it was an intended design choice, but I still found it pretty annoying. I'm just hoping they don't do that for Alan Wake 2 (If that ever happens)

It is, but fairly certain it's completely intentional. The whole story of American Nightmare is set inside a TV episode of Night Springs, which is a sort of B-Grade TV show that parodies The Twilight Zone. From the enjoyably hammy & psychotic Mr. Scratch, to the girls stuck in a time a loop, a lot feels like it came out of a Sci-Fi direct-to-TV special, and this seems like the intended effect.

Assuming a hypothetical Alan Wake 2 was not set in an episode of Night Springs, then the writing approach would probably be quite different.
Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same.
