  • PC Alan Wake retail failure to launch errors windows 8.1

    Brand spanking new Alienware Area 51
    i7-4770 3.4GHz
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 video card

    Windows 8.1

    Have a retail copy of Alan Wake with DVD and activation code
    Fully installed with all the patches from Steam, took like 4 hours.

    Have run through all the checks and suggestions on the web,
    verified the cache.
    Uninstalled and reinstalled 2x
    Game shows small window launching then nothing. Creates a dump file
    Direct X says I have latest equal or supersedes required version.
    Deleted resolution file
    set launch options with window w1280 h720 and get error that says submit dump file as a bug.

    Where do I submit this to?
    I can't tell if the problem is with Steam (no other Steam games) or Alan Wake.

    If I have the DVD why do I need Steam content?

    I cant set compatibility on Alan Wake, it just launches Steam.

    any other suggestions, or should I just bin it--its becoming a big waste of time.

    Make sure your graphic card drivers are up to date using NVIDIA drivers. No 3rd party driver. Uninstall first and then do a clean install with new drivers. No Betas.

    Dont install from DVD. Just use steam. I think someone had a similar issue regarding the DVD install procedure. Just install full game via Steam. So basically uninstall game and then just use steam.
