  • UWP Updates Coming Today, Anyone Affected?

A major Windows update is coming today that will effect the UWP.

Has the update affected your Quantum Break PC games?

No, because we have to wait for Remedy to patch the new stuff into the game.

Once applications take advantage of these new features, you will be able to play your UWP games with unlocked frame rates. We expect Gears of War: UE and Forza Motorsport 6: Apex to lead the way by adding this support in the very near future.
This OS update will be gradually rolled out to all machines, but you can download it directly here.

gow ultimate edition had its update today, with option to toggle vsync on and off and another to choose fps limit between 30,60,90,120 and unlimited

        UPDATE:
also forza motorsport 6 apex got its update with an option to choose framerate limit without vsync (but only up to 60fps ._.)

I don't know if it has something to do with uwp or if it's just random but QB would crash at startup for me and since today, after yesterdays cumulative win update, it starts up.

How do you download this update ? Downloads and updates do not report anything new through the store.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3156421) Is this it? Automatically Installed on the 12th

Yep, that should be the one (unless Bryan fumbled up): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3156421
In other words: open start, type winver and press enter, your version should be 10586.318

We're working on Title Update 3 for the Windows 10 version to support the latest UWP features such as disabling V-sync and allowing the use of G-Sync and FreeSync. Currently a CPU with minimum support of SSE 4.2 is required to run Quantum Break, but we're hoping to have a solution in TU3 to make the game run on older CPUs such as Phenom (and likely simultaneously causing the performance to take a hit).

People who dont have older CPUs like Phenom, hopefully they dont get performance hit because of this update to accomodated older CPUs like Phenom ? Please clarify.

Thanks so much for your response and keeping us updated. As a side note, I noticed a slight degradation in performance after the recent Windows (UWP) update; don't know if it's just because I'm in a different area in the game though. Frame-rate is approx 5 fps lower on average (haven't done the calculations, this is just from watching the FPS meter).

Also, I think the UWP update may have adversely affected frame-pacing, as per this thread: http://community.remedygames.com/for...uttering-mouse

The performance hit will only be for people with the older CPUs (such as phenom). This is because Remedy will have to implement a less efficient instruction set than SSE 4.2 to run the code on those CPUs; furthermore, I assume the engine was designed for SSE 4.2 and above, so won't work optimally with the workaround. But there will be no need to alter any of this pathway for the people who already had sse 4.2 or above.

Correct, performance will be affected only for the older CPUs not supporting SSE 4.2.

Thanks very much for the clarification Lauri.
