Re: The Official Users Design Thread

Another one where I was messing with some new effects, and some filter stuff. I created two versions of it:

    1. - End product, when I had done all I felt I could with this, and any other effects would just mess it up more.

    2. - I removed the bottom layer on the previous one on this, and it created sort of a darker version of it. At first I was just testing to see what each layer did to the rest of the picture, and this was the one I could remove and actually get a semi-cool effect out of it.

Re: The Official Users Design Thread

I made a banner for an IRC channel's website. Not quite content with it, so I'm gonna try making one or several new ones so we have something to choose between (yes, it's a website I'm doing).

Not the worst I've done, but not the best either.

Re: The Official Users Design Thread

            I'm on a roll today.

Another two banners, using Alan Wake Forums as my inspiration. It's fun to try something new, not only signatures. :rolleyes-razz:

This one I used the same size as the current Alan Wake Forums banner, and I was inspired by it when working (you can see some resemblance).

This one I resized, making it a little bigger. No particular inspiration for it, as much as I was just trying to make it look better than the previous by having some more space to move about in.

Re: The Official Users Design Thread

Four new wallpapers, although each one is a version of the first with different effects.
All of them are inspired by Alan Wake.

              Wallpaper One (the original):
              http://www.solaris.as/kahr/wallpapers/wallpaper_06.jpg
              Very plain, very dark.

              Wallpaper Two:
              http://www.solaris.as/kahr/wallpaper...aper_06_02.jpg
In this version I used tiles, but with a radial blur effect (and then used a black background on top of that in where I removed 75% of the foreground for a darker effect (as it became a tad much with only the tiles).

              Wallpaper Three:
              http://www.solaris.as/kahr/wallpaper...aper_06_03.jpg
Same as before, only I used noise and then radial blur for a "moving in space" kind of effect.

              Wallpaper Four:
              http://www.solaris.as/kahr/wallpaper...aper_06_04.jpg
Same as the first, only with a white background instead of the black, for those fans of a lighter theme.

Gosh... A lot of design lately.
              I've rediscovered Photoshop. :cooler:

                Too much glowing text, IMO.

Re: The Official Users Design Thread

Haha, I guess it's because I've recently learned to stylize text like that. It'll pass though, like most other stuff. I'm sure I'll learn something new again soon, and forget all about the previous.

Though, making text stand out is important though, so it's viewable. Then again... It depends from person to person. Oh well.

Re: The Official Users Design Thread

Looks good, though personally, I'd use a different font. Kahr, if you've not seen this already, check out some of the text effects here - some of them are pretty cool.

Anyway, attached is a sample banner I was working on for my website. No prizes for guessing where the background comes from (or indeed the font).

I've been checking out Good-Turorial.com - They have tons of stuff there. Good site.

Nice, I'll check that out when I get back home.

Since we're sharing links, here's a couple of sites I found useful in the past -

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=226083 - Massive amount of tutorial links covering all aspects of art

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=382608 - excellent books on drawing

http://colorlab.webespacios.com/index.php - Great site on colour theory - simple, well designed, plus a good colour scheme generator.

http://www.lunacore.com/photoshop/tu...utorials.shtml - fairly good photoshop tutorial site

Thanks man. I've only known of and used good-tutorials.com in the past. Now I'm gonna go haywire with Photoshop again, with all these good sites.

and these are some AW sigs I'd posted in another thread, before I had discovered this one. (so, mods, please delete that unecessary thread )

                              RTsa's Crysis wallpapers!

I haven't really done anything before, but I decided to do some photomerging on some Crysis media and whipped up a few panorama images. Here're the results:

                              1600x1200 - 139KB

                              1600x1200 - 110KB

                              1600x1200 - 98KB

                              1600x1200 - 258KB

                              What do you think?
I personally like the last one most! I set it up as my own wallpaper.
