  • Re: New members post here!

Hello there. I just wondered in here from off the street. What is this place? And what is this Alan Wake business?
I've been wrestling with reality for most of my life. I'm pleased to say I've won.

Name's Lazarus, 18, living in Kansas. Honestly haven't made the nextgen jump yet, I have the $$$ right now and was deciding whether I'll go with Xbox or PS3, this game is one of the reason's I plan on getting an Xbox 360. Looks great.

Although a much more mysterious games than others, it's definitely one I am looking forward to the most.

Maddie asked me to, that's why. Seriously though, it's about time I did, especially with where my future is taking me.

Well, my real name is Marko. I'm a carbon-based being with approximately 2.4 legs and I'm working as a code monkey. I'm thirty years old, but since my birthday is June 2nd, I'd say that's going to change soon.

I'm single, which shouldn't be surprising, since I'm a nerd with no real social skills other than laughing at other people. I love drinking beer, listening to the worst music you know and watching some really weird stuff on my display. What comes to my looks, I'm 6'4" (194 cm) and my weight is some tons or so. I have no sense of humor nor do I ever even want to know anything about self-irony.

Now, if you will excuse me, I have a pig to kill, while chanting for the Satan to come.

Yes, unfortunately I couldn't help it. I'm blaming my parents for it to happen. At the moment I'm living in Seinäjoki, where our firm is located at as well. We aren't exactly what some would call a typical IT firm, but then again I must have been out of my mind already, getting myself involved in such a mess. (Yes, I'm a partner. How did you guess?)

Now, I just wonder if this axe is sharp enough... Let's find out... Piggy, piggy...

I must say, and reveal what an innocent newcomer I am, that I'm amazed by the large number of people that have joined the forum of a game they have never tried playing - yet, it seems.
I'm also looking forward to getting my hands on this particular piece. I only heard of Alan Wake today, from a brazilian guy. He's brazilian, I'm finnish, Remedy is finnish... this means I should be ashamed, right? Can't keep up to date with the work of the people who are my source of national pride!
As much said, you know that I can't claim to be a fanatic gamer, or other than finnish of nationality. I'm also a girl, about to turn 17, and I fancy the nickname Parisade, it being a nice and exotic name.
The men in my life have traditionally inspired and encouraged me to share their passion for, and their will to escape to, the false freedom created by a second reality. I guess I shouldn't say more lest I insult someone, especially those who work their ass off to let us common people experience such luxury in story and graphics as Alan Wake promises to be. I hope they get filthy rich and buy a few mansions here and there, 'cause it's what I would request after finishing such a piece of work.
Oh, and if you wonder where my finnish humbleness has gone, I lost it when I moved abroad. I guess I lost it and got some English language skills in exchange.

                          Welcome, welcome all you newcomers.

@Parisade: Yes, it is amazing that so many people are supporting this game, considering the relatively scarce amount of information revealed so far!

First of all, welcome. I assume I'm allowed to say that, even though I'm a newcomer as well.

What comes to the concept of escapism, when dealing with computer games, I'd say it's more or less about the concept of what each one of us feels is real. I believe that every moment of my life is real and thus there is no such thing as escapism, since it's just about the way I choose to spend my time in this world. Second reality, yes, I admit, but then again it has been made by the human kind for the other people to enjoy. I'm a hard-working individual, but I have nothing to run away from. If I read a good book, I'm here, in this reality. If I listen to something I love, I'm still here. Same thing goes for the movies and... Yes, games as well. What can I say? I am working my ass off and I have enough debt to worry my ass off as well, but... Well... Life is life (na-naa-na-na).

Maybe you just haven't had me in your life yet, Parisade?

P.S. The pig ran away, couldn't catch him, before he got a lift from the local butcher. I think they are in a conspiracy against me. I will tell you guys more about it, when I have more information...

It's always good to hear of people such as yourself that have realised that games these days can be a great storytelling pathway. I have met too many people (especially females for some reason) that still think of gaming as a simple activity with no depth or meaning.
The reason that I am such a big Remedy supporter is due to their willingness to create games that you can feel a part of.

And yes, Parisade is a pretty cool name.

Hello I loved the look of Alan Wake so much I joined. Now I regret playing Max Payne two and being dranged into another game like that. @_@ They are so addictive. My family would kill me if I got that addicted again. Oh well here's for good luck and hopefully a full life.
