  • Re: What movie did you last see?

The movie i seen in the theater was the Dark Knight and the last DVD I seen was No Country for Old Men. That was very good even though it was kinda violent.
Yes, I am a girl and yes I am taking IT training. What's crazy about that?

Two psychological/supernatural horror films by Italian director Dario Argento - Deep Red and Suspiria. Great films, but damn are the murder scenes brutal.

I just finished watching Forest Gump, I was a little drunk and it made me cry.
The day the world loses Tom Hanks is a day, that I feel, will be a great loss to Mankind.
You've been watching too much X-Files.

I don't need to be drunk to whinge at that movie. The end is pretty sad. Tom Hanks is probably the most consistent actor around, he manages to do a pretty good job in every one of his movies, even when his reciprocating actor is an inert volley balls with straw hair.

The last movie I watched was Appleseed Ex Machina. In a word. Awesome. I'm not a huge fan of John Woo, but managed to swallow some of the more silly action-packed moments. Probably because they're easier to do well under the pencil.

He is very consistent, and only gets shortchanged when the role doesn't fit his style (eg. Da Vinci Code). Whenever Gump or Cast Away shows up on TV, I end up leaving it on until the end. No surprise that Hanks completely dominates those two flicks.

I just recently watched Vantage Point DVD, which I think is a sleeper hit. I had no idea Dennis Quaid had serious acting chops. It's a great little movie that forms the plot together like a puzzle.

I never did watch Da Da Vinci Code, or read the book. I read Angels and Demons initially because it fleshes out the characters that are in the Da Vinci Code, but never made it to reading the next case. After that I pretty much avoided the movie as a result because I prefer to read books first where possible. I have heard terrible things about that movie though - horror stories and tales of woe manifested through cinematography - which is a shame because I'm told that the book is quite amazing, even if it does fleece a lot of information and research from The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail.

Tom Hanks is great though, I even like his cheesey 80s comedy movies like Big, Splash and, probably my favourite, The Money Pit. There aren't all that many actors that can go from serious to comedic roles with such success. I put him in the same league as Jack Nicholson and Deniro.

Argh, I've derailed the topic. I did just watch Pulp Fiction, which is what I should have been ranting about. I'm pretty sure it speaks for itself though.

Loved it. The action sequences were brilliant with the car chase at the end simply exhilarating. Not sure if its a movie for repeat viewing since I would know all the twists and turns, but it was definitely quality cinema.

Agreed, given that seeing it once is already a repeat viewing. Btw, ever since Max Payne 2 I've wanted to design a videogame where the player gets to experience the events of a given story a few times, but as different and perhaps opposing characters.

Get Smart - Not too bad, wish it was a little bit more like the series but it wasn't too bad. Not as funny as I'd have liked though.

Wanted - Suprisingly good. Not really a deep movie but a great movie just for the action and special effects. This is what Max Payne should of tried to do at least.

I agree. All those awards and nominations for Gilbert Grape, Romeo & Juliet, Titanic, they obviously were all razzies. Good call Exoskeletor

                              ------

Last movie I saw was Quantum of Solace. The inevitable comparison to Casino Royale makes it feel like a fair step-down QoS is. QoS is half-hearted and extremely simple. Of all the Bond films in history I've never seen one as narratively lopsided as this.

As a direct sequel to Casino Royale, the film drops pretty much all plot and focuses on action. I’m a proponent of thinking-man’s action films, such as Equilibrium, Total Recall, What little story there is, is nothing more than a weak excuse to string together a bunch of action scenes that feel more like alternate Jason Bourne fights rather than a Bond film. There's no mystery, no puzzle-solving and nothing resembling dangerous espionage or the more cognitive aspects of spy work.

Daniel Craig handles the action well, but is thoroughly unengaging when it comes to the emotional scenes. This isn’t his fault, however, as the script requires him to do little more than be a remorseless, vengeance seeking cardboard cutout. Afterwards I contemplated what I saw from the thread involving the Bond girl Camille. This movie, IMO, would have better been served as a revenge film using her as the lead, and not as a Bond film. In the end, I felt more of a connection to her character and her motives.

To break down the few positive aspects: QoS looks great, has intense action scenes, and the Camille character was well done.
