I actually laughed aloud in the theater when "Hallelujah" started playing. I thought it was a joke at first. I dunno what they were thinking with that one.

Overall I liked the movie. The Watchmen is an incredibly difficult piece to put to film and I think they did a pretty good job, it wasn't perfect but I wasn't expecting perfection. I will however wait for the "extended director's special certified platinum edition with extra cowbell" when I buy it on blu ray. I know there is more material out there that they couldn't include in the theatrical release.

Anyone who hasn't read the graphic novel, do so immediately. You may not read comics, much like myself, but you need to read this one. There is a reason Time magazine has it on their list of 100 Best Novels.

Totally agree. I thought it was great.

        Watchmen

An earnest attempt, and not an embarassment to the book like Moore's other work adaptations have been, but nowhere near as good as the book in the end.

Too stylized, pornographically violent, some shody pacing throughout and lacking a lot of what made the book special. Some iconic bits were either left out, glossed over or altered and made pedestrian, such as Kovacs' transformation to Rorschach. The lack of Dr. Long and the Bernards dampened the emotional impact of the cataclysm, and the adbscense of the New Frontiersman's staff made the ending seem trite.

Oh, and not at all subtle.

A solid 6, overall. Some solid performances (Haley surpases my expectations, though I wouldn't go so far as say he's better than Ledger's Joker as many have) and great fight scenes (if uncharactristic at times).

        Punisher War Zone

Rubbish, really. It tried to blend Garth Ennis' two interpretations of the Punisher to abysmal effect. Camp and stark realism, the ****?

I thought Castle was characterized poorly, and most other characters from the comic book (save for Soap) were pretty much basterdized, to the point that I wonder why did they give their names to completely different characters.

Hahahaha ya the latest Punisher movie was bloody awful. I will admit though, it was very amusing to watch since it was so entirely ridiculous. The part where he punched the guy through the face was gold. I don't know if they intended that to be funny, but it was.

Caught 25th Hour on the tube in the wee hours of the morning. The cast are excellent, and all deliver perfectly good performances but the script is a little lackluster, giving them very little to work with. Essentially it's a detailed view of the time before a criminal with a heart of gold goes to prison for the first time, showing his fears and his friends fears and all the various emotions and guilt surrounding him.

The feeling of paranoia and fear is demonstrated well by Ed Norton with a surprising turn near the end, the film is always consistent and believable.

The movie, however, I just couldn't enjoy to a great degree. It is believable, but not moving, comparable to American History X, but not as impacting. There are dark moments, anguish, but nothing exceptional and any tension and melodrama feels forced. A simple, linear drama with some good acting is all.

The Italian Job, yet even that has a history behind it (Norton was forced into the role he didn't like from an agreement with the distributor).

                      Well, that would explain it.

I didn't have the fortune to see his movies, such as American History X, until after I saw him in Fight Club. Fight Club itself was a bit of a trip, and his performance drew me in more than Brad Pitt's did, though they did compliment each other very well. Afterward, I went back and watched some of his other work (coincidentally passing over The Italian Job) and felt pulled in by any role I saw him do. Personally amazing, I think.

As for movies seen recently, I just saw Watchmen.

I had just read the comic recently and all I can say is that the movie followed the comic very very faithfully. This, to me, was the actual issue here. What they did change made sense for the adaption to the screen, but made it seemed rushed when executed.

                      Still recommend it.

Watchmen. I thought it was really good, better than I expected, but like everyone else said had some really glaring "why the f did they do that" moments. My brother and I were laughing during the opening of the Vietnam scene. It had one of tne of the best opening title sequences I've ever seen.

Push. Interesting. I expected a movie like The Covenant, IE: kids with powers who eventually degrade into a Dragonball Z like end fight. I was pleasantly surprised this didn't happen. And, the powers themselves were very unique. At least to me.

I pretty much agree with what you said. My friend, in the middle of this film, leans over to me and goes, "Snyder has no idea what he's doing."

I just though, "I think he knows what he's doing, for the most part, just not why he's doing it." The old saying about sizzle and steak.

                            But that's just me...

Run Fatboy, Run. Probably the only movie where I can appreciate a serious tone near the ending- loved the whole 'wall' bit.
