  • Poets?

Since this is the Alan Wake community, and Thomas Zane is a big part of AW Season 1, I wanted to bring up this one thing: Any other self-taught want-to-be-poets here?

Here, I'll wave the flag first:

    Down the Window

    You step inside
take your gown off at the door
give me a glance that says:
    "You should've known better.."

    I don't seem to care
can't bring myself to say a word
    nothing to describe
how sorry a guy can be

You have no right to be there
    looking all sexy, you know?
Dress up again, would you love
    and walk out now

    That way we wouldn't
    we wouldn't, would we?
    after all, breakup sex
    is not that cool anyway

    You don't leave then
you still look like an angel
You still know how to touch me
and I am still yours to take

    after, the world is still
    we're both just raindrops
slowly down the window of life
    we go

    Anybody?

Ok, one more and then I will leave this thread to it's slow descent.

    A Peace to Last

We, the Dreamers, are thus alike.
For our dreams we will fight, and we'll write
the future history less bloody than the past,
with our dreams we'll build a peace to last!

^ If they are yours, then why not
If I'm an ass, I should say so. If I don't, somebody else will. If I say it first, that disarms them.

                  There’s a message, in a letter
That you left there for me
In the sunspot, in a dark room
Where I was certain to see
I am missing, come and find me
                  The letter had said
I am lost now, in the shadows
With no place to lay my head

                  Believe me
                  I am awake
                  Find me in the house
                  By the lake

There is something in the shadows
                  That is coming for me
Left me empty, left me wanting
Made a shell out of me
Need to focus, hands are shaking
                  Furious words are typed out
Tell a story, of lovers missing
And the darkness that lies about

                  Believe me
                  I am awake
                  Find me in the house
                  By the lake
                  These nightmares
                  They cannot take
                  These are the things
                  That shadows always make

                  There’s a mystery, in a small town
                  A feeling that I can’t shake
                  Deception behind warm smiles
                  Everybody here is fake
                  In shadows lies the answer
                  In light salvation saves
Got to find the truth from lies
                  Before we meet our graves
Fear is the companion to those who do great things, but never their master.

                      Re: Poets?

That's very good, actually. Lyrics of course are very close to poetry.
I like to think lyrics are poems that have been fit to music.

Thanks, I actually was going to ask you for the song itself. BTW, would you mind if I transformed your lyrics into a poetic form and posted it here? Or just PM'd you the result?

Yeah, I'll try. It's not a huge difference, just that poetry allows for more rhymes and larger bending in wordage, as where a song need to follow a different tempo and thus needs to be more.. concise?
