Re: What book did you last read / are currently reading?

I'm reading a Sci-Fi number by Sheri S. Tepper, called The Margarets.

    For anyone that's interested:

Margaret Bain is the only child on Phobos, a human colony working on a doomed project to transform Mars into a garden planet. To keep away the suffocating demons of loneliness and boredom, she invents imaginary companions, her own alter egos - a queen, a spy, a tough boy, a healer...

When the Phobos project is shut down, Margaret is forced to return to Earth with her parents, but mankind's birthplace is impoverished, reduced to trading the only viable product the planet has left to offer: human slaves. Now no longer a little girl, Margaret's imaginary friends are lost to her, but in this harsh new world she is forced to make some hard choices, and each life-changing choice results in a different Margaret spinning off: her imaginary selves are refining their own personae, acquireing their own histories, living their own lives.

And as the Margarets scatter off across the universe, unaware of their other selves, each has to struggle to survive by her (or his) wits - until the discovery of a threat to Earth and to the whole of humanity. It's time for the Margarets to return home, for the survival of the human race depends on them... all of them.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm not very far through.
If only *you* could see what *I've* seen with your eyes. ;)

I'm reading The Informers by Bret Easton Ellis... so far not a patch on Less Than Zero, Rules Of Attraction or American Psycho... but I suppose that has time to change.

Reading Young Lady’s Illustrated Primer. I love how the first chapters outline the spiffy tech of skul guns Gunther Hermann must have been a fan.

I find Stephenson’s approach to narrative and characterizations of thete’s and Chinese mores quite authentic. Cyberpunk flows through his words in a manner that, IMO, feels a lot more fluid and believable than Gibson or Sterling. I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It's very good but kinda bleak.
Yes, I am a girl and yes I am taking IT training. What's crazy about that?

I've tried to read The Road some time ago, but I lost my interest around 50-60 pages in. Not really my style, even though I've read good things about it.

I've been plowing through some Chuck Palahniuk novels recently and some good ol' Hunter S. Thompson, but have shifted to reading some of Eric Blair's essays (He wrote under the name George Orwell).

Most of them, I have no doubt, are kind-hearted law-abiding men who would never dream of committing murder in private life. On the other hand, if one of them succeeds in blowing me to pieces with a well-placed bomb, he will never sleep any the worse for it. Christianity and international Socialism are as weak as straw in comparison with it. Hitler and Mussolini rose to power in their own countries very largely because they could grasp this fact and their opponents could not.

I don't own this book (though I might very soon) it's been floating around the workplace.

Small batch of books this time, including Electric Church, Olympos, and last but not least Foucault's Pendulum, which I am looking forward most to sinking into.

I sometimes feel the need for release from a wired lifestyle. The best way I manage is to go virtually gridless when on vacations, where the only electronic thing taken is a digital camera.

At the risk of overdosing on esoterica, you might consider following that with Gravity's Rainbow. It was another Pacotti favourite when he was writing Deus Ex. I chuckled the first time I found out Morgan Everett's password was Pynchon.

I've a got a comic book crisis lately, so after reading the whole Bone, 100 Bullets, Y The Last Man, DMZ, The Losers, and Fables series, I'm currently reading Brian Wood's works such as Demo, Local, Channel Zero, and Supermarket. All good stuff.

Can anyone suggest me a good Thriller book? Something along the lines of the Alan Wake story would be good. Of course it doesn't have to be exactly but I want a good psychological thriller with a great story with twists and turns.

A brilliant modern comic book that reads like a gripping TV series. Almost every issue ends in a cliffhanger that has you reaching for the next one.
